Even though results weren’t showing on the day, the timing system did still record data and we have now managed to extract something readable from it.
However, there are some known issues with these results. We know of a few participants that clocked up in excess of 50km but are showing substantially less than this. Others are very accurate. Unfortunately we can’t do anything more, as the main reason for any discrepancies between actual lap counts and recorded results is due to missed counts on the day – that is, the timing mat did not recognise every single tag, every single time, passing over it.
The good news is LOTS of people clocked up some very impressive distances, many well over the marathon distance of 42km. Well done to everyone!
We humbly apologise again and reiterate that we will put in place a well tested, correctly functioning system in 2011.

Hello Relayers!
WOW what a weekend! We’ve had an influx of great emails, spoken to a lot of people since Sunday and all have agreed that they are exhausted and mostly incapable of thinking or making decisions! But we are all deeply contented with our record breaking event of the weekend. We all share a feeling that we have contributed and have done something we will always remember.
Guess what!? We can’t help ourselves, we’re already making plans for next year! But in the meantime, let’s have a REALLY BIG PARTY next WEDNESDAY NIGHT!!!! Tradies have offered their auditorium, it takes up to 500 people, so let’s fill it!! We will show some photo and video snippets of the weekend, award some well-deserved prizes, have plenty of laughs, a few relaxing drinks and we’re also working on a special surprise.
To all those wonderful Relayers that participated in the Marathon and Half Marathon, Wayne from our committee and Chris from The Timing Guys are working hard to make sense of the data and we really hope to have some results on the night, if not before. We thank you again for your patience with this. As we said at the Closing Ceremony, the response to these events within the Relay program was AMAZING. We humbly apologise for this technical difficulty and we will make sure it works next year.
Finally, until next Wednesday, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and thanks to EVERYONE – Team Captains, Team Members, Visitors, Committee, Volunteers, Entertainers, Contractors, Sponsors, The Leader, Sutherland Shire Council and Sylvania Waters Residents. We all spend such a short time on this planet talking to people and doing things…What we did last weekend may just be one of the best things we ever do. You should all feel great contentment, as we do.
Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
Rod and Craig

Sutherland Shire Relay For Life
With some 4,000 visitors in 2009, Relay For Life in the Sutherland Shire is one of the biggest social events of its kind in NSW. Brace yourself! It’s almost an overload on the senses. Big stage, excellent live music, celebrities, great food, super rides and games for the kids – so much to do and yet these are just the sideshows, because Relay For Life is a festival of movement, a chance to get outdoors and just walk or run a bit (or a lot). Some make a team with friends, some do it with family and others with work mates as a fabulous team-building exercise (for example, over 100 local NAB staff attended the 2009 edition). A few do it to really challenge themselves, seeing how far they can walk or run over the whole 24 hours. While many camp out for the entirety, some visit Relay for just a few hours, but no one leaves without being affected, because Relay is chock-full of emotion and pure inspiration. In its 8 years to date, this amazing experience has raised in excess of $1.7 million toward the fight against cancer. Thank you, Sutherland Shire. On Saturday 1st May, come and experience Relay for yourself. Enter a team NOW and help to Fight Back! For those not quite ready to enter and fundraise, we encourage and welcome you to visit us on the event weekend. Have a look around, experience the great show that is Relay. We know you’ll be back next year. Relay For Life – In Short Relay For Life is a unique, overnight fundraising event that brings communities together in the fight against cancer. Perhaps you’ve been touched by cancer, perhaps not. Whether you’re are a survivor, a carer, supporting friends or loved ones, or simply wanting to make a difference, Relay For Life empowers everyone who participates. Relay For Life is not a race (although there are races in the program if you wish to pursue them!). Put simply, teams of up to 10 or even 15 people take turns to walk or run around the track. There are 3 aspects to Relay For Life, Celebrate Remember & Fight Back! |
